She could tell he was trying very hard to stay with her in this converstation. "Really? I hadn't noticed that anyone around her was sour. Besides Mint, I mean." She stumbeled over the last part of her sentence. It was obvious that Mint had some gurdge, just where it came form she had no idea. But Tammy? She was hurtful? Sakura couldn't imagine!

Shaking his head, he snorted. "Seems like nothing I do is right anymore--according to her anyway. I can understand, though." It really wasn't fair, he knew, to have strung her along this far out when perhaps she did actually feel something for him and he felt absolutely nothing romantic towards her. And to think, it had all begun with Heather... He rarely ever thought of the she-cat anymore, he was surprised to find.

"Woah, kit, don’t look so surprised,” Acerbus huffed and crouched down in front of the smaller she-cat. “Mint’s still a cat, no matter how loco in la cabeza she may be. I’m sure she had a reason for doing what she did, and if we just asked what she wanted she’d probably be a bit more manageable.” The she-cat’s impatient was wearing thin at the other’s astonishment at something so simple. Plus, Acerbus wasn't completely sane either. She could somewhat understand.

"Wrong? Jeez, that's not how I see it. I mean, you do a lot of things, but not any of them are wrong." Sakura ed her head slightly, trying to think of anything Ray had done that was wrong. Like have you fall for him? She asked herself. The first retort came in the form of 'No!' and the next in 'Why is that such a wrong thing?'.

He sighed. "You don't get it. I strung her along like you see our caregivers do fish. I gutted her and cleaned her out, I took all of her insides and threw them into whatever they call that thing--it starts with a B?--then I put them all to waste and stitched her back together, and now she's got no insides left, so she can't feel anything other than the feeling of being robbed of something that she isn't certain of and that she knows she'll never get back, ever. Instead of eating the fish and ending its misery, after that, I just let it rot and stink up the place, blubbering and gasping for air, and she won't die. She just won't die no matter how long she's out of water, and she'll always remember. She'll always remember." Traumatic experiences always did leave imprints on lives and impact them strangely. Who knew how Tammy's life would play out now? He didn't see himself as a god or diety in her eyes, but nevertheless, hadn't she loved him? Wouldn't it devestate her if it hadn't already? It was all a suicidal course, a slippery slope to slide down.

"Oh...I think I can understand what that would be like." Sakura automatically flashed onto what would happen if Takuya did that. God...she'd never recover. Just as Ray said. She'd never die. She'd never forget. Her skin erupted in goose-flesh. She fur rippeled to acomidate the chill she had just brought upon herself. That would be horrible. Poor Tammy.... Would Ray do this to her? Sakura hoped not. That would be horrible. Of course it would be, but what's life without pain?

He shook his head, and let his tongue hang out. Suddenly, he felt very hot and claustrophobic, as if the weight of his organs was growing, weighing him down and threatening to burst through his ribcage. Looking at the fence, he groaned. He should've known by now that she would always find a way to make her grand entrance.
"Hello, Ray," she coolly mewed, eyes narrowed. "Hello, Sakura." The pale white-and-orange she-cat turned her back on the gray tom-cat in favor of the other she-cat.

"Oh, hey!" Sakura tried to look cheerful, but her smile faltered. Maybe it would be better for her to talk to Ray after all. Sakura felt put on the spot. "Is there something I can do for you? Or have you come to talk to Ray instead?" Sakura asked. As soon as se said it, she figuered out that it was a bad move. Why did she ask that? It was rude!

The smooth she-cat blinked. Rolling her head backwards, she erupted in yowls that can only be described as laughter. "Why ever would I talk to him"--she added such venom to the last word--"when I have you to talk to. You're such a delight." She closed her eyes, lips turning upwards in an almost eerily human smile, adding such sugary sweetness to the last statement it made Ray's teeth ache; he could already feel the cavities forming.

Sakura blinked. Was she being played? Or...no she wasn't missing anything. But she wasn't going to act like she wasn't confused. And she didn't want to put Ray through any more pain..or more than he seemed to be in. "Really? If I'm that splendid we should talk more. I'd like to find out more about you." She added the truth onto the end. She really didn't know much about the cats who lived around here.

Brows lifting, she never lost her eerie smile. "Of course! We'll pick the dates later. Right now, if you'll excuse us, we have a pressing issue we must handle. Come on." She practically dragged him by the scruff of the neck to a nearby bush.
"Get behind. Now," she growled, baring her teeth. He obeyed, stunned to silence.
"What?" He was growing exasperated with this little game of theirs.
"You know very well what. Let's talk about how you're always leaving me. Let's talk about how you never pay attention to me. Let's talk about how you don't love me. You start."
He blinked. This was going to be one of those days.

Sakura blinked again. That hadn't worked. She had tried to spare Ray from the she-cats vengeful additude, but had failed. She slowly walked back to the outskirts of the yard, trying to listen without giving herself away. "Bye Ray..." She said as she slowly slumped out of veiw, but heard her chastising commments. She must still really love him. 'Do I let them...but does he still love her?...' Her thoughts trailed off.

He felt his gaze dropping to the ground, studying the oh-so-fascinating labor of ants as they struggled to lift a stray bit of apple three times their size. "Look, Tam-Tam"--here she glared at him with such burning intensity he shrank back, squirming--"it's not that I don't love you; it's just...well...not in the way you want me to."
Teeth parted, she sneered. A hapless little yelp escaped her, a chortle of sorts. "Same thing. If you can't love me the way you promised me, then you just plain don't love me." Why couldn't he see that? His mind was missing a few gears, no doubt.
Oh no. Prepping himself for a full-blown verbal attack and maybe even the unsheathing of claws, he felt queasy. Bile rose in his throat, and he felt the vomit forming. "It's still love, just in a different way."
"But not in the way you pledged! You're my mate--doesn't that mean anything to you?"
He grew exasperated now. It was a cat's nature to have multiple mates; she was lucky he'd even stuck around for the show. "Tam, we're cats. We don't mate for life. Besides, there are plenty of cats who jump from partner to partner."

Was Ray so stupid as to make things turn around that corner? Obviosuly Tammy loved him. She WANTED to love him. And she thought that he was the only one for her. It was so sad to listen to the ways that Tammy loved Ray, but Ray could not return. (He had promised to love her? Was he stupid?) It almost made Sakura cry. But she stored the 'jumping partners' line in the back of her head for when - if - Takuya would explode on her for feeling for Ray.

She spat on the ground. "Worthless piece of... You can just take your great proud tail and shove it up your flank because it doesn't make any difference to me anymore!" Wailing, she swatted his face, leaving a single red mark.
He winced and embraced the pain. Under his breath, he muttered: "It'd be better than you."
Eyes narrowing, murderous intent etched itself onto her features. "What did you just say?" She kept her tone as calm as possible, as if they were casually discussing the weather.
Sneering, he stuck his tongue out at her, tasting the humidity in the air. "You heard me." He wasn't going to play these kinds of games now. Moons had passed, and he had grown sick of keeping everything to himself. "There're things about you that annoy me, too, you know."
Hissing, she pounced him and began clawing at his throat. Responding quickly, he nipped at her paws and tried to kick her off, to no avail. Rolling over and over, they kept at each other, sloping downhill. Tammy's right ear was echoing blood and pulsing was Ray's heart. It would never end, and this was only the beginning.
