The moon was high in the night sky, Silverpelt twinkling over the treetops of the forest. Owls and bats fluttered overhead, searching for the nights dinner. Except for the clan patrols, most cats took this time to sleep. Most cats. The tree Kai Ken brothers, named for the way they looked like Kai Ken dogs, were stalking through the trees, slipping in and out of the shadows on silent paws. Akatora, the oldest and rest pelted tom, flicked the tip of his ear. The two younger brothers slunk off in different directions. Kurotora, the dark pelted youngest brother, let a small smirk cross his face, tongue licking his jaws as the scent of owl crept up his nose. Yes, owl. The three brothers took joy out of a challenge, especially when hunting. There were a force to be reckoned with when together and in a hungry mood.
Chutora, the brown pelted middle brother glanced at the moving dark red shape that was Akatora, waiting for the right signal. All three took positions, circling the bird. Akatora made sure his brothers were in position before giving the signal. He lunged first, and in a fluid motion the other two were closing in. The owl let out a call, even mroe so as claws dug into its skin. It flapped its wings and clawed at the felines, aiming for eyes and vulnerable spots. The three toms were battered and clawed before Kurotora managed to get his jaws in the creature's neck. Slowly, the owl stopped struggling as its windpipe was slowly crushed and oxygen lacking in its lungs.
Akatora used his paw to wipe some blood out of his eyes, looking at his brothers. Chutora was licking a small cut on his shoulder Kurotora had one paw on the owl, licking a stinging part of his tail. The red tom let a smug smirk cross his maw. "We won't go hungry for a while."
"Got that right!" Kurotora bragged, looking up from his tail. "Though, Chutora will be the last to starve with how much he eats." He laughed, even as Chutora smacked his younger brother's maw.

Spitting out the poppyseeds he had attempted to chew to oblivion, Sable curled his lips at the gut-wrenching taste. Bitter, it did nothing for him. If he wanted a real hallucinogen, he would have to find catnip, which seemed to only be indigenous to Twoleg territory. Still, he longed for something to take his mind off of things. What was that racket in the distance? Padding in the direction he thought was the source of the noise, the jet-black tom-cat's curiousity peaked. Three tom-cats, who appeared to be related, greeted this tugging feeling. Shrinking back, it was the first contact he had had with another cat since three moons ago.

Akatora rolled his brown eyes as Kurotora and Chutora fought over the bird. Both were arguing, a paw on either side of the owl. Finally, the red tom had enough. He shouldered Chutora aside, giving Kurotora a look. "Knock it off or neither of you will it."
the two exchanged looks before pouncing on their older brother, batting at him with sheathed claws. "What type of brother are you, denying us food!" growled Kurotora playfully. The owl was forgetten for the moment as they wrestled with one another, not knowing that there was another cat around.

"Ahem," he coughed, quickly making his presence known. Of course he didn't want to come off as rude, but sometimes it was necessary. "Sorry to bother you. Was just passing through," he demurely mumbled. They were certainly a lively bunch; he could tell from the way they tackled each other. "You wouldn't happen to know any nearby places where I could find some catnip, would you?" Why would they? He could have clawed his eyes out, as it was such a stupid question.

All three cats paused, looking over at the newcomer. Kurotora and Chutora scrambled off their brother, going to the owl and standing protectively over their prey. Their brown eyes never left the other tom. The cats had ran into some odd characters in their time in the forest and had learned to keep on guard around new cats. "Why would we know?" demanded Kurotora in a growl. A flick of the tail from Akatora shut up the easily hotheaded cat.
"We don't," came the much calmer response of the red one. "Why? Know someone who's sick?" Why anyone would be lookin for catnip for any other reason the tom didn't know.

Brow raising amusedly at Kurotora's reaction, his own temper didn't flare as easily. However, his mood did not go completey unaffected. By now, he understood that loners rarely ever trusted newcomers so easily. Nevertheless, he didn't accept the fact. Ignoring the discourteous tom, he turned his attentions on Akatora, who seemed to be their leader. Made perfect sense, he thought. "I need something to take my mind off of reality."

Off of reality? Akatora gave the new cat a weird look, half way between confusion and curiosity. He sat down on his haunches, bending down to pick a small stick out of his chest fur. He looked back up at the tom. "Did you try the kittypet places?" He shrugged his shoulders, glancing at his brothers.
Upon seeing that Akatora had it covered, they both went to tearing the owl apart, getting at the better meat and away from the feathers. Of curse, they would occasionally look up at the loner, making sure he didn't try anything.

Inwardly, Sable rolled his eyes. Like I want your left-overs, he thought. "Not yet. I prefer not to venture over those ways if I can help it. You know how Twolegs are when they find foreigners in their yards." Maybe he didn't, he realized shortly after saying it. Shrugging his shoulders, he hunkered his weight down and studied the three brothers intently. Very much alike, the two younger ones.

It was understandable. Akatora padded his way over to the owl they had taken down only moments earlier. Both of the other cats moved aside to make room for their older brother. Kurotora, after eating his fill of the bird, licked his jaws, looking at the other male. Half of him hoped the tom tried something. Just for more of a workout, then. Blood covered claws dug into the ground beneath his paws, tail twitching. One wrong move.

"I'm not an idiot, you know," was what he longed so desperately to say to them all. Actions speak louder than words, however, and so he knew that he must prove his intelligence by speaking little and not picking fights. "Where are you usually? I've seen most loners already, but I don't recall ever seeing your lot anywhere."

"We travel," came the gruff response from Kurotora. They never stayed in one place too long. One could consider them rouges because of that. But, the brothers always liked the term loner better. "No one can tame the Kai Ken Brothers. We don't bend to the rules other put down." If one had turned their attention back to the other toms, they would see both of them rolling their eyes.

Trying not to twitch his whiskers, the last thing Sable wanted was to appear as though he were making fun of this peculiar tom. "That would explain it." He let his thoughts lead him in the next direction of topics.
"You wouldn't've happened to have seen Scrawlbinge anywhere, would you?"

There were very few cats the three had come across. Only one stood out and that was the shapeshifting kitten Akatora seemed to have a thing for. Kurotora gave the other loner a confused look. "Who is that?" It was very unlikely that they had come across the cat that this male was looking for.

"Bad temperament, red fur, one gray eye and one green." It should be description enough. Where had she gone to recently? The world may never know. He had to admit that it was foolish to expect these brothers to know everything.

The black tom shrugged his shoulders. "Never seen a cat like that. Maybe that cat went back to where it belongs, eh?" He gave a small smirk, looking over at his brothers. Not the best thing to talk to in the forest, that was for sure. Kurotora, out of the three, was the most likely to tick someone off to no end.
Finishing off the bird, Chutora and Akatora went to sit next to Kurotora, giving themselves an aftermeal grooming.
